The T Level learner funnel: from starting to results

The insight
Of every student who starts a T Level, about 76.7% reach assessment, and around 71% go on to pass — even though 92.6% of those who reach results pass. Retention, not the pass rate, is where most students are lost.

92.6% of students who reached results passed — but that is about 71% of everyone who started, once you count the roughly 5,946 who left before assessment. A high pass rate and a high completion rate are not the same thing.

Reading the funnel

Of 25,508 students who began a T Level in 2024/25, about 76.7% (19,562) stayed and reached assessment. The 2025/26 results population — 19,665 students — is essentially the same group, measured a different way. Of those, 92.6% passed and 68.9% achieved a Merit or above.

The industry placement is a separate requirement, not a grade band: 97.2% of those with results completed it.
